Deborah Thomas

A training and development 25+ year veteran. She has extensive experience as a corporate training professional. She started SillyMonkey LLC 4 years ago. SillyMonkey LLC is a boutique training company specializing in innovative games and activities. They offer unique services including games and simulations to help learners retain learning objectives. They design custom board games, card games, electronic games, video games and other interactive multimedia training components for instructor-led sessions, as well as, eLearning, mobile learning, social networks and virtual worlds.

She is current president of the Atlanta chapter of the Georgia Game Developers Association, Vice President of Professional Development, a past president of the North American Simulation and Gaming Association, a speaker at conferences and often requested to conduct workshops. She spoke at ASTD International Conference and Expo on Attacktics "Making Learning Happen in Unsuspecting Locations." She also serves as a board member of the Technology-Based Learning SIG for Greater Atlanta ASTD. She provided assistance to the ASTD WebEx Subject Matter Expert training series. She is also a board member for the Workplace Learning Society for TAG. And she has served as a Brandon Hall eLearning Award Judge.

She started her professional life as a newspaper reporter for a top ten paper which she affectionately relates to as "boot camp for life".

In the past she managed the standards and guidelines and implemented multiple eLearning solutions for a variety of clients. She developed Idea Central which is an accelerated learning system and an Idea Bank which housed training games, tips and activity shells. She managed multimedia developers at a debit/credit processing company where she implemented a Flash-based and video training program. She developed games including the board game "I'm Coaching Now" and a variety of other interactive training games.
